How does this happen to a professional basketball team?

In the throws of blowing a 25 point lead including allowing a 20-0 run in the last 6:22 of the fourth quarter, the Hornets found time to forget what basket they were defending and allow Kobe to streak uncontested for a dunk that put the game out of reach.  How, with 24 seconds left in a 2 point game, does a team forget what basket they are defending?  Hopefully the name change to the Pelicans next season can erase the Hornets' recent misfortunes.

PS Kobe ended last night with 42 points on 14-21 from the field with 12 assists and 7 boards.  Here come the Lakers.

Sources close to the club can confirm another franchise altering development soon to go down in the Association. It appears as early as the end of the week, the New Orleans Hornets will be dropping the Hornets moniker and instead changing their names to the Pelicans.

Here is the rumored logo the team will adapt. Yes, the Pelicans. What an inspiring and intimidating name for a franchise.

Louisiana apparently has some odd Manti Te'o type fascination with the bird. While I can attest to the Pelican at least being real, the bond between state and bird seems a bit odd. The Pelican is the state bird of Louisiana(fine), but the bird also appears on the Louisiana State Flag, Louisiana License Plate, & the State Painting.

Double super-secret sources say that the New Orleans Hornets are set to change their name to the Pelicans. Apparently, it's the state bird, and there used to be a minor league baseball team in N'Awlins called the Pelicans. Pretty weird.
